Title: Nure-en
2022 Cedar, Brass
A Japanese-style deck “Nure-En” built by a shrine carpenter to enjoy the view of Akaogi Bay.
The circular topography of Akaogi Bay known as the Amami Crater is believed to have been formed by a meteorite, and meteorite materials discovered there include metal pellets, nickel and iron fragments, micrometeorites, and meteorite chunks.
The lustrous black texture of mud-dyed Oshima Tsumugi is said to be the result of the iron-rich soil, in other words, the influence of meteorite falls.
Artist (Shrine carpenter): Naotaka Saito
After his experience as Yakuza, he became a shrine carpenter, working on the construction of shrines, temples across the country. He lives in two locations: Amami Oshima and Kanagawa Prefecture.
