Exhibition Location: Billow Building
Title: Dream of Billow
2023, Fusuma Painting
A fusuma painting created by the artist during a two-week stay at the Ryukyu Villa Billow.
It depicts the landscape of the Billow tree visible from the bedroom.
The Billow tree has long been revered as a sacred tree in the Ryukyu Islands, often found in spiritual sites and sacred places. It has also been considered a sacred plant on the mainland since ancient times, and is still used as roofing material for the "Hyakushichō," a building where the Emperor performs purification rituals during the Daijosai ceremony.
Artist (Painter): Konirow
Born in Kyoto. Influenced by the fusuma paintings of Kyoto temples that he saw in his childhood, he began painting. He focuses on mural production based on street art culture. He has participated in numerous projects, including live painting, mural creation, and exhibitions across Japan, Asia, Europe, America, and the Caribbean.
