Title: Dream of Billow
2023, Fusuma Painting
The artist created this sliding door(fusuma) painting during his two-week stay at Ryukyu Villa Billow. He painted the view of the billow trees that can be seen from the room on the fusuma in the bedroom.
Billow trees(Livistona) have long been prized as sacred trees in the Ryukyu Islands, and can often be seen at sacred sites, Utaki. The plant has also been regarded as sacred on the mainland since ancient times, and even today it is used as roofing material for the "Hyakushicho," a building where the emperor performs purification rituals during the Daijosai imperial court ritual.
Artist(Painter): Konirow
Born in Kyoto. He began painting under the influence of the fusuma paintings of temples in Kyoto that he had seen since childhood. He mainly works on creating murals based on street art culture.
