Title: Untitled AMAMI 2024
2024 Silver leaf, washi, sliding doors
for the artist to create the work during a stay of about two weeks at Ryukyu Villa Bilo.
Influenced by the climate and environment of Amami Oshima, the color and texture of the silver leaf change over more than 20 years.
In this stay and production in Amami, by applying the silver leaf in its original state to the sliding doors, I entrusted its discoloration to the warm and humid climate of Amami. The discoloration brought about by the natural environment surrounded by the sea breeze and the towering palm trees and cycads should bring about a change that can only be prompted here and now. Works that undergo such a process will have a stronger sense of 'site specificity' compared to conventional works, emphasizing another unknown aspect of the natural world that exists along the extension of people's realistic timelines, rather than just the material aspect.

Artist / Curator: Shuhei Fukuda
Born in Japan. Completed the doctoral program at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts.
After studying Japanese painting, I attempt a modern approach using traditional Japanese materials and techniques.
By using silver leaf as a material and leaving the work in nature, it represents the discoloration of silver as a gentle relationship between the artist and the material. By strongly presenting the materiality of the material and the work on the surface, it pursues an Eastern view of nature and aesthetic sense that values the natural state.
